Would Jesus Forgive Women Who Abort Their Babies?
Here’s another Quora question I came across:
If Jesus Christ were here now, would he forgive women who abort? If yes, why do people who call themselves Christians want to condemn those women or execute them? As Christians, do they know more than Jesus Christ about what is good or bad?
Here’s my answer:
First of all, Jesus is here now.
Second, there are literally zero Christians who want to execute women who have aborted a baby.
Third, Jesus would absolutely forgive them if they repented of their sin. Repentance means feeling truly sorry for what you’ve done and being determined never to do it again.
God will forgive anything, but today’s entitled culture believes it should be forgiven and saved without having to change its sinful ways. As Jesus said, “Deny yourself, pick up your cross daily, and follow me.” Those are all very unpopular ideas nowadays.
Nobody wants to make any sacrifice, but they still demand that God (and by extension, God’s Church) should hand them the keys to the pearly gates of the Kingdom. It’s like demanding that you should be able to attend the king’s wedding party dressed in filthy rags, not because you’re poor but because you feel no need to change (clothes).
This, by the way, is a parable Jesus (yes, super-nice Jesus bro!) tells to his disciples (Matthew 22), and these are the consequences for the disrespectful “guest”: Then the king told the servants, “Tie him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” For many are called, but few are chosen.
God loves you and me like a father loves his kids. He really, really wants us with Him. But we can’t enter Heaven covered in pus and filth from our sins. We need to be stripped of our filthy, smelly rags and to be “washed clean”—and for that to happen, we need to firmly intend to stop sinning and become more like Jesus. That’s what it means to follow Him.
God bless you!
